Board Members

Agbesi Kwadzo Dzakpasu Esq

Agbesi holds an LLM (Banking and Finance) from the London School of Economics and Political Science ( LSE) (2003) and an LLB from University of Ghana (1998). Agbesi has particular interest in banking and finance, litigation, energy, pensions, real estates, media and mining. He was an Associate at Akuetteh Kudoadzi and Co until early 2004.

Agbesi completed the Ghana School of Law in 2000 and was admitted to the Ghana Bar the same year. He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association and also a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).

Agbesi is currently the Board Chairman of Pensions Alliance Trust, a leading pensions administrator in Ghana. He also serves on the Board of Media General Ghana Limited, owners of TV3 Network Limited and a number of commercial radio stations.

Agbesi had previously served on the Board of Ghana Grid Company and was the Company Secretary and Secretary to the Board of the Ghana National Gas Company from its inception until February, 2016.

Esther Awovi Akafia

Founder and CEO

Esther is an attorney and an experienced international development professional with over 20 years of experience working and leading teams globally. She is the Founder and CEO of the Pioneers International Academy.

Esther started her career as a business advisor with the Royal Bank of Scotland in Manchester, UK and subsequently charted her role as an attorney in Ghana establishing microfinance banks in Ghana and Africa. Esther subsequently focused on the African continent where she led the Human Resource, Training and Development for FINCA International, a global microfinance organization headquartered in DC. During this time, she focused on building teams to support business growth and on developing middle level management to assume C level roles to drive local leadership in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, DRC Congo, and Uganda. She subsequently took over as Deputy CEO of FINCA operations in Nigeria. The idea of Pioneers was nurtured while in business school at Colorado State University where it was incubated at its entrepreneurship center. Pioneers is Esther’s give back to enable others use education to change their trajectories and make an impact in the country, the continent, and the world.  In the last 8 years Esther has focused on Pioneers full time, taught at the universities in areas of law, business and leadership and served on boards in the education space and new business.

Esther’s educational qualifications are Bachelor of Laws (LLB, Ghana), Masters, International Business Law (LLM, Manchester, UK), MBA (Colorado State, USA) and is currently pursuing Ph.D. in Education & Social change (Bellarmine Kentucky, USA).

Mrs. Maame Afua Forson is my name, and I am honored to serve as an administrator at Pioneers International Academy. With a passion for education and a diverse background in secretarial-ship, management studies, travel, and tourism, I am dedicated to creating an enriching and nurturing environment for all students, teachers, and staff.

Education has always been a cornerstone in my life, and I am proud to have graduated from Cape Coast Technical University with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Secretarial-ship and Management Studies. This foundational education equipped me with essential organizational and managerial skills that have proven invaluable in my role as an administrator.

As an administrator, my primary goal is to support and foster a positive learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally. I believe in the power of education to transform lives and empower individuals to achieve their dreams.

Collaboration is at the heart of my approach to administration. I work closely with our esteemed team of educators and staff to implement innovative educational strategies and ensure that every student receives the attention and support they need to reach their full potential.

Vera Kudanu Eyram is my name. A product of Nyarkrom Senior High Technical School situated in the Central Region of Ghana and now working as an assistant tutor in Pioneers International Academy. I joined the team about a year ago and I must say teaching the learners has been a wonderful experience for me. I love being around children because they bring lots of joy. I have been able to teach and equally learn from the learners as well in diverse ways.

As an individual, I always had a passion for public speaking especially pertaining to speaking to my colleagues about God. I like to write and read books. Am a lover of music and like to draw and paint during my leisure time. 

In terms of my aspiration, I aspire to be a researcher in the Medical field with the aim of helping to find possible solutions to the various health issues that many people go through.

BEATRICE FREEMAN

Over the past five years, I have been actively engaged in teaching and have gained expertise in early childhood education. As the Team Lead for the Early Childhood Department at Pioneers International Academy, I have successfully managed and coordinated educational initiatives, ensuring a smooth and effective learning experience for young learners. My passion for teaching and commitment to student success has driven me to continuously improve my teaching methods and stay updated with the latest educational trends.I possess certifications in Jolly Phonics and Montessori Education, which have enhanced my instructional abilities and allowed me to provide a well-rounded education to my students. These certifications enable me to incorporate innovative and engaging teaching techniques into my lessons, fostering a love for learning among my students.

My leadership skills have been pivotal in promoting collaboration and teamwork within the department and the broader school community. I believe in empowering teachers to excel in their roles, and I actively support professional development opportunities for the staff.

As a committed and experienced teaching professional, I love working with children and contributing immensely to their development.

My Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Professional Education on Child Development from the University of Cape Coast combined with 21 years of teaching experience has equipped me with strong insight in dealing with children.

Furthermore, I am very creative and enjoy cataloging materials to make lear ning more interactive and interesting. Most importantly, my ability to work well with others, to motivate and inspire is a very significant contribution that I am confident I can bring to any student I handle.

During my nine years of teaching experience and almost seven months at Pioneers International Academy, I  developed a deep love for kids and a passion for teaching. It has been an amazing experience, as I have had the opportunity to teach diverse learners and learn from them in return.

I have a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and currently topping up with a degree in the same field of studies. This course has given me much understanding in teaching and nurturing children in the most effective and appropriate way.  

At Pioneers International Academy, I currently have the responsibility of teaching learners in Preschool 2. I collaborate with my colleagues and continuously update myself with the latest educational technologies and strategies to give my learners the best teaching experience.

To me, teaching is my passion more than a responsibility.

LYDIA BLABOE

I’m a Diploma Holder in Educational Psychology (English and Social Studies) from the University of Cape Coast and currently furthering to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Psychology through distance education at the same University where I will major in English Language.

I have Nine years of teaching experience from The Brilliant Souls International School. During those years, I was the English Language teacher for the upper primary and JHS, an administrator, and a secretary. As part of my work, I typed and printed all examination questions including French and Ghanaian Language.During my National Service, I was posted to The Potter’s Village Home at Dodowa to work as a teacher, an Assistant Administrator, and a Fundraising Coordinator.

I won an election for the position of  General Secretary for NASPA (National Service Personnel Association). My service at The Potter’s Village – Home created in me a desire to help vulnerable people in my community and beyond. In view of that, I  am currently representing one of the International Foundations (Mildred the King Foundation – USA) in Ghana by organizing donations to bless those in need.

At Pioneers International Academy, I am an assistant teacher at the Early Years specifically helping a special Child (An Autistic). This role has challenged me in taking online certificate Courses such as Behaviors of an Autistic Child from The Centre for Autistic And Developmental Disabilities of the University of Houston, Clear Lake, USA, Understanding Learning Disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorder from Florence Academy Certificate Training Center, United Kingdom.

I have developed so much interest in what I do at Pioneers and am ever ready to learn more to assist these wonderful children.

MARTHA OFORI

Eager and enthusiastic early childhood teacher seeking to combine academic achievements and placement experiences in challenging teaching roles. I am skilled at developing a supportive classroom environment including quickly developing rapport with learners and using positive reinforcement to bring out the best in each learner. I can implement learning strategies that acknowledge and cater to individual learning requirements, alongside enforcing classroom management strategies to manage challenging behavior.  I have been teaching for the past eight years and have spent four years with Pioneers International Academy. I have a Diploma in Montessori Education and aspire to be a child psychologist in a few years to come.

Richel Victoria Nartey is my name. I completed school at Chemu Senior High School in the
Greater Accra Region. I come from Prampram in the Greater Accra Region. I am now working as
an assistant tutor in the Pioneers International School Early Years. I have been with Pioneers for
seven months now.
I have developed a strong love for the kids and also so much impact from them, because they
make me feel happy whenever I teach them. I have got so much passion for teaching. It has
been a good a journey, as I have had the opportunity to teach diverse learners and also learn
from them.

Whenever I am not in the mood, they make me feel that there is something called true love. I
have found so much happiness in nurturing young minds and helping them develop their skills
and knowledge.I am aspiring to be a nurse and help take care of sick people in my community. I like to read a
lot of novels and religious books during leisure time. I have dedicated to provide a better
education, fostering a positive classroom atmosphere and physical, social and emotional
growth. I aim to provide the best learning experience for my learners in Pioneers. I love working
with children and contributing to their development. I am skilled at developing new ways to

PHILIP TETTEH

My name is Philip Tetteh Tokoli is an esteemed educationist and youth counselor with a rich background in academia. Holding a BA Hons in Education from the University of Cape Coast, he is well-versed in the Cambridge curriculum and has demonstrated his teaching prowess at institutions such as Evangelical Presbyterian School, Ridoana Comprehensive School, and St. Janet International School in Ashaiman. He handles History and Global Perspective subjects at Pioneers.

Hailing from Greater Accra Region in Ghana, Philip brings a wealth of experience to his role as an educator at Pioneers International Academy since 2016. His dedication to instilling values goes beyond the classroom, as he serves as a youth leader and counselor, embodying integrity and genuine leadership.

A passionate gospel preacher, Philip is not only an exemplary father and husband but also an advocate for good behavior and ethical conduct. His commitment to research reflects his determination to be an influencer in the realm of education. Known for his exceptional public speaking skills, he also excels in hospitality and event management, showcasing his love for excellence.

FLORENCE AKUA BAANI

Equipped with a Diploma in Educational Psychology, English, and Social Studies from the esteemed University of Cape Coast, I hold a pivotal role at Pioneers International Academy. Currently, I am entrusted with the responsibility of teaching year three students and overseeing the school’s book club activities. Furthermore, I am actively involved in organizing the spelling bee competition, an event that showcases the linguistic talents of our students. As a teacher, I am acutely aware of the unique strengths and needs of each learner and strive to provide equal opportunities for their development, thereby upholding the inclusive ethos of our institution. DORIS GYAN AZUDEY

I’m a devoted and experienced professional teacher with an impressive teaching journey spanning over twenty-three years. I take immense pride in my accomplishments, having earned diplomas in both Music Education and Basic Education, solidifying my expertise in a wide range of subjects, including English language, mathematics, science, history, and music. My passion for nurturing young minds and guiding them through their educational journey has been an ever-growing flame throughout my career.

One of my distinctive talents lies in dance choreography, which I thoroughly enjoy teaching to my eager students. Watching them express themselves through movement fills my heart with joy and brings an artistic dimension to the learning experience.

My deep affection for working with young children is evident in every interaction. I find great joy in cultivating a safe and supportive atmosphere where my students feel comfortable exploring their potential without fear of judgment. My patience knows no bounds, and I am always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need, ensuring no one is left behind.

DANIEL SHABOUH GYAMFI

I started teaching a few months after completing my Secondary School Education. Throughout that period, I grew some passion for the work and always found it rewarding to see kids excel under my supervision. This motivated me to pursue my first degree in 2017.

I studied Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education at the University of Education, Winneba.
After my first degree, I had the privilege of having my national service with Akosombo International School and was later extended with an additional 1 year contract.

I took my teaching license examination in 2021 as a basic requirement for teachers in Ghana.
Throughout all these years, I have had the privilege of teaching using both the British and the Ghanaian curriculum.

I inject these skills into my teaching and academic activities and make sure the students get the best of teaching each day.

At pioneer International Academy, I have been entrusted with being the Homeroom teacher for the year 3 learners. I find this very fulfilling to have an impact on the life of these students, to shape them for the future and also to bring out their greatest strengths in academics

Specializing in English education for year 6 and 7 students, I have honed a comprehensive understanding of language development and confidence building. My teaching philosophy revolves around adapting instructional techniques to suit the unique needs and learning styles of each student, ensuring a personalized and effective educational journey. Beyond English instruction, my commitment to inclusive education is demonstrated by my work with intervention learners in years 4 and 3. Emphasizing holistic development, the school encourages group projects, outdoor play, and music. My teaching approach seamlessly integrates these elements, fostering the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of my students. During my six years of teaching experience and four years at Pioneers International Academy, I have developed a deep love for kids and a passion for teaching. It has been a rewarding journey, as I have had the opportunity to teach diverse learners and learn from them in return. I find immense joy in nurturing young minds and helping them develop their skills and knowledge.

I have a solid educational background with a Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science and a Master’s Degree in Geology. These subjects have provided me with a strong foundation in scientific principles and critical thinking, which I integrate into my teaching practices.

At Pioneers International Academy, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of teaching the English Language to students in the Upper Primary and Secondary Departments, as well as Chemistry to students in the Secondary Department. Additionally, I am in charge of the Upper Primary Department, where I oversee its management and ensure a smooth and productive learning environment.

In my role, I strive to create engaging and interactive lessons that cater to the unique needs of my students. I am dedicated to providing a well-rounded education, fostering a positive classroom atmosphere, and supporting my students’ social and emotional growth. TERRY AMPADU TENKORANG

As a teacher with a passion for education, I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of students. With three years of teaching experience and a strong academic background in geological engineering, I bring a unique perspective to the classroom.

Proficient in mathematics and the sciences, I teach subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and science to the Secondary and Upper Primary grades at Pioneer International Academy. My goal is to not only impart knowledge but also cultivate a deep understanding and appreciation for these subjects among my students.

One of my strengths lies in my ability to connect with students and create a supportive learning environment. I am patient, approachable, and always available to assist students who require academic assistance. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in French from the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, where she honed her linguistic skills and cultural appreciation. Furthermore, she pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the esteemed University of Cape Coast, solidifying her expertise in the art of teaching and instructional strategies.   Throughout her career, she showcased versatility, having taught French and demonstrated her proficiency in Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing.
